20+ years of driving, and got my first ticket. It’s for 10 over, not too terrible. They want $125. Unfortunately it hundreds of miles from my house, so it’s just not practical for me to request a court date and spend my time and gas money getting back to the far away courthouse where the hearing would be held, and possibly just be told to pound sand anyway. They count on this, or course. I’m putting the money in the mail today.
I’m hoping my car insurance doesn’t notice. I’ve heard of people getting by without their car insurance noticing the ticket on their record. Do they just pull driving records periodically? Or at every single renewal? Anyone know? I’m sure it varies by driver and insurance company.

It also depends on the state. You could possibly get a lawyer, and you wouldn’t have to show up (the lawyer does it all for you)

Sounds pricey. It’s in my state, WA State, but it just happened to be on the complete other side of the state.

My wife got a ticket in Norfolk, VA for running a red light (she swears it was yellow) and we live in Texas. No point in even trying to fight it, so we just mailed a check.

I’m going to traffic court in an hour, I rear ended a volvo and got a careless driving ticket. First at fault accident in my entire life. For speeding I’m like do the crime do the time. I feel bad about the accident, I totalled the car I hit and drove mine home. I was advised by a lawyer to plead no contest.

That stinks. Good luck in court, I hope it works out for you to some extent.

I’ve never
noticed
a bump in insurance from a ticket, I’m not sure how much it’ll matter. It might depend on company or agent though. I ususlly don’t fight tickets though because I definitely was doing it, and half of them happend out of state, and the one that didn’t was written up as something else so it didn’t have points.

Two weeks after turning in my MD learner’s permit and getting my shiny new license, I got nailed in a 25 doing 40. To be fair, the limit for the previous couple miles had been 40, and the guy was just beyond the sign. Let me off with a warning. I was so sure the police would call my parents that I fessed up. Of course, no such thing happened.

Was it the camera kind? Those don’t go on your driving record.

Nope, it was a cop. It was her first ticket in years though.

I wish speeding tickets were more like movie tickets, so I could by them in advance. I would keep one or two in my glovebox if they weren’t “showtime” specific. You know, just in case...

“Don’t be sad - Just remember those times we did not catch you...” read the sign at the Court House pay window. A good one, I thought.
